Upcoming Speakers

Tracy McGaha - Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University of Toronto

Date: 20.06.2024

Time: 14:00

Location: DKFZ Main Lecture Hall

Host: C. Opitz

Titel: Microbes and Death: Functional Interactions Controlling Immunity in the tumor and tumor-draining lymph node

About: After completing his Ph.D. at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and New York University in 2002 with Prof Constantin Bona, Tracy McGaha joined the Rockefeller University in the Leonard Wagner Laboratory of Molecular Genetics and Immunology as a postdoctoral fellow under the guidance of Prof Jeffrey V. Ravetch. There he investigated mechanisms of inhibitory receptor signaling in prevention of inflammatory pathology and autoimmune disease. McGaha moved to Temple University in Philadelphia in 2006 and started his own research group to study tissue resident macrophage contribution to peripheral tolerance. In 2008 Tracy  relocated his group to the Medical College of Georgia where they began to examine the impact of micro-environmental sensors on innate immune function in cancer and autoimmune disease. Following a recruitment by Dr. Pam Ohashi Tracy McGaha moved to the University of Toronto/Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in 2015 where he is continuing his work on the microenvironment, innate immunity, and outcomes in cancer. Tracy McGaha is currently a senior scientist of the Tumour Immunotherapy Program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Professor in the Department of Immunology at the University of Toronto. McGahas research interests involve understanding the role of cell death, inflammation, and sensors of stress and metabolism on macrophage function and microbiome/immune cell crosstalk in cancer therapy resistance.
