FLASH Workshop 2025: The Role of Oxygen in FLASH Radiation Therapy

Welcome

Text for visually impaired users: "Image promoting the FLASH Workshop 2025 hosted by the Heidelberg Institute for Radiation Oncology (HIRO) and DKFZ, scheduled for July 1-3, 2025, in Heidelberg, Germany. The background features a red abstract design."

The FLASH Workshop 2025 from July 1st until July 3rd 2025 in Heidelberg at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) brings together medical physicists, biologists, clinicians and scientists to discuss the impact of oxygen in FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT).

The FLASH effect has been shown to be influenced by the amount of oxygen presence in the medium within the tissue. Increased tissue oxygen has been shown to reduce the protective nature of FLASH in healthy tissue. The underlying mechanism by which oxygen influences the FLASH effect is still unknown.

The FLASH workshop will allow for an open discussion of the ideas of how oxygen impacts FLASH-RT. Talks by our invited speakers will be supplemented by talks and posters of attendees. Therefore, we are really looking forward to your abstract if you want to actively participate in the workshop.
