Application process
1. application
Send us your application about a year in advance → preferably via our online application tool or by post. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications by email.
2. pre-selection
All applications are reviewed. Have you made us curious? Then you will receive an invitation to an interview.
3. interview
The 1st interview takes place online. Here we would like to get to know you better.
4. invitation to the DKFZ
Have you successfully passed the first interview and kept us interested? Then you will receive an invitation from us to a personal interview on site with an opportunity to test some practical tasks.
Depending on the profession, it is possible that a further interview or work shadowing will follow.
5. acceptance and contract
Have you convinced us? Then you will receive confirmation from us and we look forward to welcoming you as a new apprentice/ dual student at the DKFZ in September!
FAQs on the application process, vacational training and dual study programs
The DKFZ offers apprenticeships and dual study places in the areas of laboratory, administration and IT. Here you can find detailed information on the apprenticeships and dual study programs at the DKFZ.
You work 39.5 hours a week.
You will receive a salary for your performance and commitment (as at February 2025):
1st year of training: 1,236.82 euros
2nd year of training: 1,290.96 euros
3rd Year of training: 1,340.61 euros
4th Year of training: 1,409.51 euros
You have 30 working days vacation per calendar year. In addition to public holidays, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are off.

- A cover letter (max. 1 page)
- Why did you decide to do this apprenticeship/study program?
- What is your motivation for completing your apprenticeship/studies with us?
- What are your strengths and experience?
- A structured CV in chronological order, starting with your current job.
- It should include all your educational and professional activities as well as the most important information about yourself.
- What makes you stand out, e.g. internships, stays abroad, language skills....
- Your last two references, which should be of good, legible quality.
You can apply online via our job offers or by post (please do not send an application folder). Applications sent by e-mail will not be accepted.
We look forward to receiving your application documents one year in advance, i.e. from July / August of the previous year.
We award several apprenticeships / dual study places every year. So you are not alone at the start of your training! The vacancies are allocated per application deadline. You can find the application deadline in the text of the respective job advertisement. If your desired profession is no longer online, the recruitment process is closed and we no longer accept applications.
This means for you: the earlier you apply, the greater the chance of getting an apprenticeship / dual study place.

Video interview
- Find a quiet environment where you will not be distracted.
- Test the technology in advance (e.g. headset, internet connection) and dial in in good time (at least 10 minutes before the interview starts).
- Have material ready to take notes.
- Find out about the apprenticeship / dual study program in advance.
- Make a note of any questions you may have for us.
Interview at the DKFZ
- Allow enough time for your journey.
- Think about which professional and personal skills are important for this apprenticeship / dual study program.
- Be yourself and don't pretend.
There is no classic recruitment test. However, we will ask you knowledge questions that are relevant to the apprenticeship / dual study program. Practical tasks are also possible.
If you apply for an apprenticeship or a dual study program at the DKFZ, you can expect a multi-stage selection process. The selection process differs depending on the apprenticeship / the direction of the dual study program. We generally start with a digital interview in the first stage. If you are shortlisted, we will invite you to the DKFZ to get to know you personally. In the final stage, a job shadowing or another online selection round is possible. After that, you have made it and you will find out whether you have got the apprenticeship / dual study place in your pocket.
Yes, travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the guidelines of the Baden-Württemberg state travel expenses law (2nd class rail travel or € 0.30 per kilometer).
