School of Prevention
In the National Cancer Prevention Center, an innovative training and advanced training center for scientists and health experts, the School of Prevention, is being established. The School of Prevention aims to train highly talented young scientists and to establish non-academic careers in the field of cancer prevention. By interweaving basic research with specific cancer prevention research and the model application within the prevention outpatient clinic under one roof, following the example of the Comprehensive Cancer Centers, the National Cancer Prevention Center will provide attractive and high-quality education and training opportunities for young talents from all over the world.
Cancer Prevention - Graduate School
With the aim of offering a comprehensive training to excellent scientists to become experts in cancer prevention, Deutsche Krebshilfe launched the first graduate school for cancer prevention research in Germany. The coordination office of the new national graduate school is located at the DKFZ in Heidelberg. Deutsche Krebshilfe is funding the graduate school with three million euros.
Please find more information on the webpages of the Cancer Prevention Graduate School (CPGS).
Training of prevention experts
Of particular importance for the National Cancer Prevention Center and future partners in Germany is the professional training of prevention experts. In the School of Prevention, training programs are established for cancer prevention experts who implement intervention programs and are in direct contact with clients and patients. Since cancer is partly based on the same risk factors as other diseases (e.g. diabetes, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases), the National Cancer Prevention Center will collaborate with renowned institutions of preventive medicine in these fields. Specific job profiles on cancer prevention, which are still lacking, and opening new career paths are key goals of the School of Prevention and comprehensive continuous education for preventive medicine will be established in Germany. In the long term, continuing education measures will be developed for various academic and non-academic professions, for which accreditation is envisaged in cooperation with partners such as authorities, chambers and associations.
