Shafagh is interested in how cell-fate is regulated and influenced by RNA modifications.
Specifically, she looks into the mechanisms of how RNA modifications promote wound healing and tissue regeneration. This is important because chronic wounds pose a major health risk to the elderly and patients with diabetes and obesity. Her vision is to find RNA modifications that improve natural tissue regeneration capacity but also protect from cancer.
