Biological laboratory technician (m/f/d)
Your training as a biological lab technician at the DKFZ
As a apprentice biological lab technician at the DKFZ, you will work in international research groups and make an active contribution to cancer research right from the start. Working with tumor cells, tissues and molecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins as well as with laboratory animals will soon be part of your daily routine. State-of-the-art techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology, immunology and genetic engineering will determine your everyday work in the laboratory. You will work independently and autonomously in a team directly with our scientists.
- The apprenticeship lasts 3.5 years.
- If you perform well, you can bring forward your final examination and obtain a technical college entrance qualification alongside your training.
- Vocational school lessons take place at the Heinrich-Lanz school (Mannheim) in block form.
- In addition to the vocational school lessons, we will support you within the framework of internal teaching units.
- You will take your final exams (Part 1 and Part 2) at the Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
- During your apprenticeship, you will be trained in various specialist departments at the DKFZ, which deal with topics such as cell and tumor biology, functional and structural genomics or immunology, infection and cancer.
- Your vocational training with us includes the following elective qualifications:
- Molecular biology and genetic engineering
- Immunology and biochemistry
- Cell culture technology
- Pharmacology
- Microbiology
- Digitalization in research, development, analytics and production
- You have the opportunity to gain experience abroad in Europe during your apprenticeship (Erasmus Plus).
- Good secondary school certificate, vocational baccalaureate or high school diploma
- A keen interest in scientific subjects, experimentation and practical work
- Good English skills, as you will be working with colleagues from different countries on site
- Good knowledge of German, at least level C1
- Concentrated, responsible and precise work
- Willingness to carry out animal experiments on mice in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act
