Breast cancer risk factors survey
Abstract
MARIE is a large population-based case-control study, conducted between 2002 and 2005 with more than 10,000 participants to identify potential risk factors for the development of postmenopausal breast cancer. In addition, in 2009 - 2010 a follow-up was conducted patients (MARIEplus). Study leaders are Prof. Dr. Jenny Chang-Claude (DKFZ Heidelberg) and Prof. Dr. Dieter Flesch-Janys (University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf).
Our group under the direction of Prof. Karen Steindorf investigated in MARIE and MARIEplus the physical activity behavior before and after the cancer diagnosis and its effect on cancer risk, biological mechanism and the overall and diesease-free survival.
In MARIEplus we further examined cancer related fatigue and quality of life. The aim of our research is to gain a better understanding of the causes, factors and different manifestations of fatigue to enable a more effective treatment.
