Immune protection and immune pathology in experimental models of SARS-CoV-2 infection
The overall goal of this sub-project is to define the role of immune cells, cytokines and latent virus reactivation in the control and pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection and to determine in vivo the prophylactic and therapeutic effect of a class of host-targeting drugs to suppress SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses with pandemic potential.
To reach this goal, we pursue three aims that will help to clarify highly relevant questions related to viral and immune pathology of COVID-19.
In line with the Transfer mission of COVIPA, we aim to bring forward a novel broad-spectrum therapeutic concept that is based on blocking host cell chaperones of relevance to the replication of coronaviruses and possibly several other viruses of pandemic potential and to cellular inflammatory response.
