Your training as an animal keeper at the DKFZ
In the animal keeper apprenticeship, the rules for the protection of animals are paramount.
You will care for, feed, breed and observe laboratory animals. As an animal keeper, you will assist with veterinary examinations and treatments.
You will also document your work on a PC and evaluate experimental procedures. This makes you an indispensable support for our scientists and therefore for the entire center!
- Your apprenticeship lasts 3 years.
- If you perform well, you can bring forward your final examination.
- At the Center for Preclinical Research, you will be trained in various areas such as isolator, barrier and SPF maintenance and will be part of small teams.
- A team of competent trainers will accompany you during your apprenticeship. This means you will always have a contact person at your side.
- Vocational school lessons take place at the Bertha-von-Suttner school (in Karlsruhe-Ettlingen) in block form.
- In addition to the vocational school lessons, we will support you within the framework of internal teaching units.
- You will take your intermediate and final exams at the Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
- Good secondary school leaving certificate
- German at least at level B2, basic knowledge of English
- Sensitivity in dealing with animals
- Sense of order, cleanliness and hygiene
- Strong sense of responsibility
- Aptitude and willingness to do physical work
- Social skills, good ability to concentrate
- Unfortunately, an animal hair allergy is not compatible with the apprenticeship.
