Refresher Course for Appointed Project Manager Expertise (according to §28 para. 3 GenTSV)
Officially recognized refresher course for appointed project managers (PL) and biological safety officers (BBS)
According to §§ 28 and 30 GenTSV, appointed project managers and biological safety officers must have verifiable knowledge and practical experience in handling microorganisms, plants or animals and the necessary knowledge of safety measures and occupational health and safety in genetic engineering work.
In order to provide proof of this expertise, appointed project managers of genetic engineering work must, among other things, provide proof of participation in an accredited advanced training course to the responsible authorities.
Until March 2021, only one participation in a training course was required. With the amendment of the Genetic Engineering Safety Ordinance (GenTSV, as of 2019) in March 2021, appointed project managers and biological safety officers have to renew their expertise every five years by attending a refresher course.
Our one-day online refresher course serves as a refresher on the relevant regulations in the field of genetic engineering, the registration of genetic engineering work, risk assessments and safety measures in genetic engineering laboratories. In addition, the course offers the opportunity to discuss direct implementation of the legal requirements using practical examples and to exchange ideas with participants and referees on real case studies and issues.
Course content
- Basics and application of the legal requirements of genetic engineering law and regulations.
- Hazard potentials and risk assessment
- Safety measures for genetic engineering facilities
- Organizational measures in the laboratory
A concluding exam will certify the succesful participation in this course.
Target group
This refresher course is aimed at biologists, physicians, biochemists and other natural scientists who have already completed the basic course for expert knowledge in accordance with the provisions of §§28 para. 2 S. 1 No. 3, para. 5 of the Genetic Engineering Ordinance and now require a refresher course for their appointed project manager expertise, e.g. because the last refresher course took place more than 5 years ago.
Please note that this course is a refresher course. We do not currently offer the basic training for appointed project managers and biological safety officers. You can find an overview of the currently offered courses on the website of the Regierungspräsidium Tübingen and the LAG.
