Veronica researched RNA chaperone proteins under Rick Russell at the University of Texas while studying human biology and interdisciplinary liberal arts (2013-2017). She quickly decided that cell culture and computational genomics are much more interesting than in vitro models, so she broadened her research interests into RNA regulation and decay during her human genetics PhD under Anthony Leung at the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Medicine and Public Health (2022). Veronica's clumsiness at the bench and brown thumb in the culture hood led her to take on an entirely computational position at the DKFZ in September 2022. She is a joint postdoc among the Odom, Frye, and Goncalves labs studying how mole rats evade skin cancer; so far, no one has figured out that she knows nothing about cancer. If she is not cussing at her computer right now, she is probably hiking or stuck in another city trying to navigate the Deutsche Bahn.
