Welcome
We are happy to announce, that the 8th MR in RT Symposium in Heidelberg, which had to be cancelled in 2020, is now rescheduled for 2021 as virtual event. It is hosted by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) - the biggest German biomedical research institute – and will take plase from Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st of April 2021.
The fast technological development and the rapid clinical implementation of MRI in radiation therapy applications is currently one of the most exciting as well as most challenging developments in radiation oncology. With this science symposium we would not only like to bring together specialists from all involved disciplines, but also to foster a discussion about the scientific direction of the field. The latest developments in physics and technology of MR-guided radiotherapy, clinical directions and results will be presented.
Prior to the symposium (April 18th, 2021) we are preparing a Virtual Satellite Symposium for a limited number of attendees to have a more in-depth look into some aspects of clinical procedures for QA and dosimetry at an MR-Linac.
We are well aware, that hosting such a virtual event in 2021 might still be difficult. Nevertheless, we will try to organize a fruitful and relaxed virtual event to build new and reinforce existing cooperation among the virtual attendees.
We are looking forward to seeing you online in 2021!

Scientific Program and Abstract Booklet
We are very happy to publish the final program of our symposium. It includes one keynote and one highlight talk as well as two young investigator sessions. Furthermore, 12 scientific sessions (live) and 8 live poster sessions are part of the program and are suplemented by further recordings and e-posters.
The majority of our talks on the main stage are going to be recorded. Participants can watch the talks afterwards on our virtual platform whenever they have time.
Please note: all times indicated are given as Central European Summer Time (CEST). Please carefully check your time difference when attending our virtual symposium.
Furthermore, our abstract booklet is online as well.
Satellite Symposium
MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) has evolved from technical development to clinical application. First experiences with existing MR-Linac devices clearly confirm the clinical potential, however, implementation of adaptive MRgRT still provides many practical challenges ranging from dosimetry under reference and non-reference conditions, installation and commissioning of MR-Linac devices as well as a lack of methods for efficient machine- and online QA. Effective realization of these measurement techniques will depend on the device providing different vendor-specific features and tools. Presently, there is a rapid development of new metrologies accompanied by an urgent need to spread the knowledge on these methods among the community. For reference dosimetry, metrology has been developed within a project funded by the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) and first results were presented at a previous satellite symposium at the MRinRT conference in 2017. Meanwhile, developments have advanced and the present symposium aims at following up on the developments in dosimetry, QA and dedicated end-to-end tests reflecting the complexity of real treatment workflows.
The symposium is intended for medical physicists and other professionals, who employ MRgRT in clinical practice, plan to start an MRgRT- program or are already involved in these exciting new developments. With this satellite symposium, we hope to raise interest and to stimulate fruitful discussions among colleagues.
Organization: Christian Karger, Sebastian Klüter, Stefan Dorsch
